Lake Murray Storm Repair

Location

Chapin, South Carolina

Project Type

Post-Storm Home Repair

Scope of Work

  • Winds from a storm blowing across Lake Murray caused the large gable wall to blow in.

    • Poor original design and construction defects from the original constructed left the wall vulnerable to even an average storm event.

  • Retrofit of gable wall, vaulted ceiling and surrounding deck.

Key Challenges

  • Maintaining the original architectural details of the windows.

  • Maximizing the views of Lake Murray by utilizing the material strength of all available members.

  • Supporting the existing vaulted ceiling and ridge beam with a 28’ king post and allowing for a cantilevered roofline over the rear deck, further opening up the views and mitigating future maintenance items.
